Spode Museum Trust Heritage Centre

About

Spode was one of the most important factories from the Industrial Revolution as the birthplace of bone china.

Located at the former Spode factory site, the Heritage Centre tells the story of Spode and its importance to Stoke over the 230 years of its operation.

Come and view the displays and videos of Spode's history, the people and their working conditions, and of its products from the 1770s up to 2008 when the factory closed  although it was still producing world class hand-painted ceramic wares badged as Royal Worcester and Spode.

Try the activities at the Centre which include demonstrations by highly skilled former Spode employees of china painting and printing on antique machinery from original copperplates.

An important segment of the overall ceramics collection, the ‘Blue Room  Collection’ comprising hundreds of blue transfer-printed pieces made between c.1790-1847

Group Trips

We are happy to welcome your group to the Heritage Centre. Admission to the Centre is free, but a donation to support the project is much appreciated.  However, there are charges for visits to the Blue Room, guided tours of the factory site with special demonstrators and speakers, or for tea and coffee.

Please contact us for more information and to discuss your requirements.
