Hints and Tips for writing Award Winning applications
We understand that submitting an award application can be a daunting process, particularly if you’re a small business or have never done it before!
Each year to support our region’s tourism businesses with writing successful Tourism Awards applications, we run award application workshops.
The webinars are free to attend, they guide you through the full application process and the sessions are designed to help both existing and potential new applicants to understand:
- The benefits of applying for an award
- Which categories to consider
- What the judges are looking for
- How to create the best applications
- How to make the most of an organisation’s participation and success
Whether you have attended a workshop or not, you are welcome to download a PDF copy of the 2024 workshop presentation by clicking the image or link below:

Top Tips to consider when putting your application together
Make sure you answer the question – refer to the relevant criteria
Tailor your answer – if entering multiple categories don’t just copy and paste
Use facts – do not make ambiguous or inaccurate claims
Support answers with relevant evidence
Don’t assume the judges know your business!
Use the word limit and give detailed answers
Make every word count - don’t duplicate answers and waste word count
Ensure all aspects of your business are covered
Start preparation early
Highlight why you are different – what are your best qualities?
Don’t over complicate
Reflect your passion and personality
Fully answer questions – use prompts to help
Include initiatives from across the business
Show how you act on feedback (and mistakes!)
Read through the form twice – ask a colleague
Review and submit on time
