Best UK Theme Parks
We have two of the best UK theme parks in Staffordshire, plus loads of other adrenaline attractions if you like to get your heart racing!
Alton Towers Theme Park
If you’re looking for pulsating rollercoasters, there are none better than the Alton Towers rides!
Enjoy the thrilling Wicker Man, a unique, immersive coaster experience – the first in the world to combine wood and fire!
Tackle the exhilarating Big Six, from Oblivion, with its exhilarating vertical drop, to the legendary Nemesis, Europe’s original inverted thrill ride, and The Smiler, the world’s first rollercoaster with 14 loops.
New for 2021 is the Gangsta Granny ride, based on the popular children's book by David Walliams and part of the new World of Walliams area in the theme park.
For younger visitors, there is plenty to entertain at Alton Towers CBeebies Land, which is packed with rides dedicated to hit CBeebies shows, including the new Peter Rabbit ride, Hippity Hop.
Spot your favourite characters on the In the Night Garden Boat Ride, where you might see Upsy Daisy and Iggle Piggle, join Captain Barnacles and the crew on the Octonauts Rollercoaster Adventure, and make the best custard pies at the Justin’s House Pie-o-matic Factory.
Escape from the mayhem in the historic castle and beautiful gardens, discover the weird and wonderful creatures in Sharkbait Reef by SEALIFE, cool off in the Alton Towers Waterpark and tuck in to an exciting meal at the world’s first Rollercoaster Restaurant.
Drayton Manor Theme Park
At Drayton Manor Park, you can get to know some well-loved children’s TV characters at Drayton Manor Thomas Land, the only official Thomas & Friends themed attraction in Europe.
Take a tour of Thomas Land with Thomas, Rosie or Percy, put out the flames on Flynn’s Fire Rescue, and soar into the air with James and the Red Balloon.
Learn how to drive a tractor at Terence’s Driving School, spin and tilt on Toby’s Tram Express, and hold on tight on Cranky’s Drop Tower, before a relaxing snack at Sodor Airport, where you could bump into The Fat Controller!
Test your nerve on a whole host of Drayton Manor rides, with plenty for thrill-seekers to enjoy.
Brave the world’s first stand-up rollercoaster, Shockwave, as it powers through twists, loops and bends, or experience the pulsating 54m drop, followed by a four second freefall, on Apocalypse.
And what about Maelstrom? A firm favourite with Drayton Manor visitors, this is a white-knuckle swing which takes you to great heights before plunging back to Earth – but not before the 360 degree turn!
Away from the mayhem, there are more than 80 different species, including tigers, meerkats and lemurs, waiting for you at the fascinating Drayton Manor Zoo.
Other Staffordshire Theme Parks
There’s fun, rain or shine, at other Staffordshire theme parks like the Snowdome in Tamworth and the Waterworld aqua park in Stoke-on-Trent.
Snowdome Tamworth
The original UK indoor ski slope, Snowdome Tamworth is a great family day out, packed with soft landings on real snow all-year round!
Snowdome activities include ski and snowboard sessions on the 170m main slope, with lessons for all abilities on the two training slopes to get you ready for your winter break, plus great snow fun like tubing, sledging and huge games of snowballs.
Race down the slope in Snowdome tobogganing, try to stay upright on the UK’s only ice track at Snowdome ice skating, or enjoy some warmer adventures in the 25m pool.
Have a go at the Snowdome Climb, with two walls and 15 climb lines to tackle, as well as challenges like the 10m twister tower and the ice wall.
Waterworld Stoke
Get a taste of the tropics and make a splash with the family on the slides at Waterworld Stoke, one of the top indoor water parks in the UK.
There’s something for everyone, with over 30 Waterworld Stoke rides to enjoy, and soothing days on the sun loungers or in the hot tubs.
Young daredevils can take on the legendary Space Bowl, which spins you around and spits you out, or the water rollercoaster Nucleus featuring plenty of ups and downs to blast through in your rubber ring.
And with the Interactive Jungle House, with the water cannons and monsoon monster splash to dodge, and loads of slides for those under 1.1m tall, there’s great fun on offer for toddlers too!
Try more adrenaline adventures
Hang around at one of our five high wire ropes courses, including Go Ape at Cannock Chase, with its Tarzan Swings and zip wires through breath-taking scenery, and the Sky Trail Adventure at Planters Garden Centre.
Get to grips with famous climbs like Valkyrie and The Perverted Staircase in The Roaches, a hotspot for rock-climbers in the Staffordshire Peak District with 700 different routes to try, and test your skills at Kilnworx Climbing Centre, with routes and walls for all abilities.
For more high-octane hi-jinks, bounce into action on the trampolines at Flip Out and Air Space, home to Total Wipeout, tumble tracks, assault courses and free running zones.
Get behind the wheel of a supercar at Driveme.net, where there are a host of driving experiences to choose from, including some specifically designed for junior drivers.
Or throw yourself around the track at Midland Karting, with a range of karting activities for adults and families, and Curborough Sprint Course, which organises regular motorsports events like car club get togethers and sprint schools.
Go cross-country on a quad bike at NPF Bassett’s Pole, where you can test your aim with one of the paintball challenges, with a bow and arrow, or even with a throwing knife.
