About
Chillington Hall in South Staffordshire is the most recent building on a very ancient site. It has been the residence of the Giffard family since 1178, the current owner being the 30th member of the family to call it home. Although people have lived here for almost 1000 years, the present house is a product of two differing Georgian styles; the South side built in 1724 by Francis Smith of Warwick, the rest by Sir John Soane some sixty years later.
Guided tours of this charming family home are available on selected public open dates, and for pre-booked groups at other times of the year by arrangement. Our friendly guides will give you an in-depth history of the house, the landscape, and the people who have lived and worked here.
The Hall also welcomes schools, filming for cinema and television, photoshoots and hosts outdoor and sporting events.
Parkland & Lake
The landscape park and lake to the south of the house were designed by Lancelot 'Capability' Brown during the 1760's for Thomas Giffard the elder.
